Pennine Lancashire SCITT

Our Vision, Purposes and Required Outcomes

We believe our children and young people have a right to expect outstanding teaching. If we are to fulfil our responsibilities in preparing them for the challenges and opportunities they will face throughout their lives, they require nothing less. Our vision is, therefore, that every child in every school across our Alliance, and beyond, enjoys a world class education regardless of which teachers they encounter. The SCITT was set up with the purpose of allowing this to happen.
School-centred teacher training has become increasingly popular in recent years, and the Pennine Lancashire SCITT has been an integral part of this expansion in provision since being set up in 2013. Training with the PL SCITT means that you will be in a school right from the beginning of term in September, meeting the classes that you will be teaching over the course of your training year. Because trainees are able to visit schools in the summer term prior to their course starting, we find that they feel more confident and secure when the course begins. Trainees tell us that this gives them a sense of belonging, and that they feel more like a real member of staff at the school rather than just a trainee.

It is our purpose to:

Select trainees with the potential to be outstanding teachers;

Provide a challenging, stimulating and inspirational training designed to create inspirational teachers;

Focus on trainees personal, intellectual and professional development;

Prepare trainees for a possible role in one of the Alliance schools;

Lay the foundations of all our new teachers achieving Masters degrees.

Our responsibility is to ensure that every trainee teacher who completes our Training Programme is graded as Outstanding, and, at the very least, as Good with the clear potential to be outstanding.
